Welcome

Dear colleagues, dear friends,

On behalf of the organizing committee of the international course Brno Flap Course 2026,” it is my great pleasure and honour to invite you to join us in Brno, Czech Republic, from October 3–6, 2026.

This course is organized in close collaboration with the Department of Anatomy of the Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University, with the support of the Czech Society of Plastic Surgery (ČLS JEP). It has been carefully designed to meet the needs of both residents and practicing plastic surgeons who wish to master the principles and practice of flap dissection, as well as experienced microsurgeons seeking to further expand their expertise.

We are proud to welcome four distinguished leaders in the field: J. P. Hong (South Korea), Marco Innocenti (Italy), Andres Rodriguez (Sweden), and Filip Stillaert (Belgium). Each of them represents excellence in a specific domain of reconstructive plastic surgery and will serve as your mentors throughout the course.

The program offers a comprehensive and immersive experience, combining theoretical knowledge with intensive hands-on training. It includes a workshop on preoperative diagnostics and vascular mapping held at SIMU, one of Europe’s most advanced simulation centres, as well as a microsurgical anastomosis course—including robotic techniques. The course will also feature an afternoon of expert lectures at the Masaryk University campus, followed by three full days of hands-on flap dissection at the Department of Anatomy.

Participants will work with fresh-frozen cadaver specimens prepared using advanced coloured silicone vascular injection techniques, allowing for precise visualization of vascular anatomy and facilitating dissection. A highly individualized approach will be ensured, with no more than two participants per specimen.

Special focus topics for this year include microsurgical head & neck and facial palsy reconstruction, breast reconstruction, and complex extremity reconstruction, including orthoplastic approaches. A new highlight of this year’s course is the “skin-to-skin” concept, in which training will extend beyond flap harvest to include flap transfer, microsurgical anastomosis, and final inset into a simulated tissue defect—providing a uniquely comprehensive surgical experience.

Through expert-led lectures, live anatomical dissections, and close personal mentorship, you will gain deep insight into the principles, techniques, and innovations shaping the future of reconstructive microsurgery.

We sincerely hope you will accept our invitation and join us in Brno—to refine your microsurgical skills, exchange knowledge with colleagues from around the world, and enjoy the inspiring atmosphere of South Moravia, a region renowned for its rich culture, excellent wine, and warm hospitality.

We very much look forward to welcoming you.

On behalf of the organizing committee,

Libor STREIT
